Supplies / Dress Code
Students will receive information about necessary school supplies from their teachers the
first week of school.
Students' dress and grooming are expected to be in keeping with accepted community standards.
DRESS AND GROOMING
The District’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards and assert authority. Students shall come to school looking clean and neat, wearing clothing and exhibiting grooming that will not be a health and safety hazard to the student or others. The District prohibits pictures, emblems, or writings on clothing that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene (i.e. Co-Ed Naked, Big Johnson, etc.), slam slogans, or that depict or advertise tobacco products, alcoholic beverages of any kind, drugs, or any other substance prohibited under policy FNCF (LOCAL); or identifies or refers to satanic, cult, or gang activities. Further it prohibits any dress or grooming that, in the principal’s judgment, may reasonably be expected to interfere with normal school operations.
A school is judged in some degree by the appearance of its students. It is the responsibility of each student to uphold the high standards of Overton ISD by dressing properly for school. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards provided that they comply with the following student dress requirements that include, but are not limited to the following:
- Button Type shirts are to be buttoned to within one button of the top of the shirt or whatever is appropriate and reasonable for that shirt.
- Hair should be cut often enough to insure good grooming. The length of the hair for boys should not be below the ears, below the collar, or in the student’s eyes.

All tops must conceal undergarments. Appropriate undergarment must be worn. A top must have shoulder straps a minimum of 2½ inches in width. Skirt length and short length shall be no more than three inches above the knee measured by kneeling on the floor and placing a yardstick on the floor. Tight fitting shorts may not be worn. All shorts are to be hemmed. The lengths do not apply to Head Start through 2nd grade.
