Position: LIFE SKILLS TEACHER; 2008-2009 School Year
QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Bachelor's degree from accredited university; (2) Valid Texas Teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned (3) Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned (4) Meets the NCLB "Highly Qualified" requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Provide instruction to students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities including but not limited to autism, mental retardation, and Down Syndrome. Develop individual education plans and instruct in life domains including functional academics, self help (hygiene), community skills, vocational, communication, daily living skills, and behavior. Complete all ARD paperwork and facilitate ARD meetings. Collect and analyze data to make decisions regarding to inform instruction. Be able to use state curriculum and teach pre-requisite skills tied to the TEKS and have a general knowledge of TAKS Alternative and uses of assistive technology. Plan and supervise assignments for teaching assistants and work collaboratively with related and instructional service providers. Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and/or feeding of students which may include lifting, transferring, and toileting. Expose to bodily fluids and the use of containment or restraint is possible.
Comfort with technology is imperative as the Life Skills classroom is equipped with numerous software programs as well as a SmartBoard interactive whiteboard.
