One of my favorite smells is a freshly opened box of Crayola crayons and I absolutely love to go school supply shopping. I can spend hours planning curriculum and get way too excited about “really cool lesson plans.”
I love school. I always have. I remember spending summer vacation playing “school” and counting the days until I could go back to the real classroom. I wish that every child could find the same excitement and passion that I have for education. That is one of my goals for this district: to search for innovative ideas, materials, and technology that can instill a love for learning in the students of Overton ISD.
EVERY CHILD: It is important to know our students and build relationships with them so that we know how they learn and what instructional strategies are going to work well for each child. Every child has a story. We as educators must learn the story of each child in order to educate them properly, as each child has unlimited potential to learn.
EVERY CHANCE: What happens if what we are doing isn’t working? Do we throw up our hands and walk away? Not a chance! We will work hard to give our students every chance and opportunity that we have the ability to provide.
EVERY DAY: Every day we have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the life of a child. Consistent high expectations for academic performance and behavior will be expected on each campus in every classroom by every teacher every day.
My mission is to take Overton ISD to places it has never been before. When I came to the district, I made a commitment to focus on three things: building and creating a positive atmosphere and environment for students and staff, well-structured and consistent discipline that begins in the classroom, and increasing the use and integration of technology in the classroom. We have made great strides in these three areas with the help of new construction, grant funding, and the addition of strong staff members; and we will continue to build on this success daily.
In the short time I have been a part of the Overton family, not a day passes that the generosity of this community doesn’t amaze me. The gifts of time, spirit, energy, and dedication to the education and lives of the students of Overton ISD are priceless treasures that I am very thankful for to the community, parents, faculty, and staff.
Thank you for sharing your child with us at Overton ISD,
Jennifer Driver,
Interim Superintendent
