SECRETARY TO THE SUPERINTENDENT: The work involves the independent performance of complex and difficult clerical and secretarial operations and involves relieving the Superintendent of administrative details such as arranging conferences and meetings, handing contacts which should properly be made with subordinate officials, answering routine correspondence. The work is distinguished by the frequent exercise of independent judgment in giving out information regarding school policies and practices, and in planning the routine of an office. The correspondence duties of the position are distinguished by the fact that most letters and releases of a routine recurring nature are composed personally with correspondence being dictated only when new problems arise. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent. Knowledge of: • Principals, practices, and procedures utilized in an administrative office. • District organization, operations, policies, and objectives. • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. • Telephone techniques and etiquette. • Record-keeping techniques. • Oral and written communication skills. • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
