SPECIAL BOARD MEETING JULY 30, 2007
The Overton ISD Board of Trustees met for a special school board meeting on Monday, July 30. The following items of business were transacted:
- Mr. Aleman, OISD band director, had two students model the new band uniforms.
- The Board decided to table an item to reduce bus routes and not provide transportation for students living within a one mile radius of the school.
- The second reading of the 2007-2008 Junior High Cheerleading Constitution was approved.
- The second reading of the 2007-2008 Elementary Student Handbook was approved.
- The second reading of the 2007-2008 Secondary Student Handbook was approved.
- The second reading of the 2007-2008 Staff Handbook was approved.
- Representatives from WRL Construction presented a new timeline to the Board. They reported that the timeline had been revised and the library and ag building would be finished prior to the start of school, however, the classrooms would not be completed until October.
- Dr. Stretcher reported that, due to the unusual amount of rain, the roof on the old gymnasium had not yet been repaired. The Board approved a motion to reopen the gym floor area for use as a dressing area.
- Dr. Stretcher reviewed the preliminary budget with the Board.
- The Board approved a proposed tax rate of $1.04/$100 valuation for maintenance and operations and $.15/$100 valuation for interest and sinking, for a total tax rate of $1.19/$100 valuation.
- August 27 was set as the date for the public hearing to discuss the tax rate and budget.
- The resignation of Julie Simms was not accepted.
- Jennifer Petzet was employed as a speech therapist.
