REGULAR BOARD MEETING                                                                   JULY 10, 2007

The Overton ISD Board of trustees met for a regular meeting on Tuesday, July 10. The following items of business were transacted:

  • The minutes of the June 12 regular meeting, the June 12 special meeting and the June 18 special school board meeting were approved.
  • The agenda for the meeting was certified
  • The checks written in the moth of June were reviewed.
  • Principal reports were given by new elementary principal Jennifer Driver and new high school principal Leroy Davis.
  • Thank you notes from Mary Hart and Sandra Welch were shared with board members.
  • The District Integrated Pest Management Policy Statement was approved.
  • The Board approved a motion to call for property insurance bids.
  • Dr. Stretcher  presented an update on the District Technology Program.
  • The first reading of the junior high cheerleader handbook was approved.
  • The second reading of varsity cheerleader handbook was approved
  • The second reading of the athletic handbook was approved
  • The first reading of TASB Policy Update 80 was approved
  • Dr. Stretcher reported on the progress of the building project and the payment request to WRL construction was approved.
  • Dr. Stretcher reported that the school is currently on the waiting list to get the roof on the old gym fixed.
  • A motion was approved to construct a softball field on the lower practice field. Work on this project will begin immediately.
  • A budget workshop meeting was set for July 30.
  • The resignations of Ag teacher, Bob Walters, technology teacher, Melady Thompson and speech therapist Lacee Lovely were accepted.
  • Kristen Williams was employed as a technology teacher and softball coach, Candice Haynes was employed as an elementary special education teacher and Marsha Richardson was employed as a full time reading specialist.
T.J. Rucker was employed as a part-time Junior High Principal. He will teach for one-half of the day and serve as  junior high principal the other half of the day.
