REGULAR BOARD MEETING JANUARY 29 , 2007
The OISD Board of Trustees held a special meeting on Monday, January 29. The main outcome of this meeting was the establishment of goals that we all need to work toward. The goals that were set by the Board are:
- The Overton ISD will become a recognized school district.
- The Overton ISD will construct a girls softball field for play in the 2007-2008 school year.
- The facilities and grounds of the Overton ISD will be maintained at a high level.
- The school will adopt a uniform grading policy that will be followed by all teachers and efforts will be made to maintain up to date grades on the parent grade reporting system.
- Complete the new high school and ag science building along with library renovation in time for the start of the 2007-2008 school year and on budget.
- Fill all vacancies as soon as possible with high quality, appropriately certified personnel.
- Develop an atmosphere in which employees are encouraged to live in the school district and become a part of the community.
- Employ an additional coach for the girls’ program
In addition the February School Board meeting was moved to Thursday,
February 15.
Also, there have been numerous questions about the safety of the old gym. Testing has been conducted on the old gym and the only problem area identified were the dressing rooms. The coaches have worked hard to move the kids out of these areas and we are not currently using that area. Everything else was deemed to be safe. When the decision was made to conduct the testing, I made the decision to go ahead and move the elementary PE to the competition gym and I do not see the need to change that at this time. We are still conducting some junior high and high school athletic practices in the old gym. Little Dribbler practice will also continue in the old gym as well. Once again, the stands and gym floor have been determined to be safe and there is no danger to anyone using these areas.
At their February meeting, the Board will consider options for long term repairs and usage of the old gym. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me
